Strength training can feel intimidating if you’re new to it. Maybe you’ve been curious about lifting weights but don’t know where to start. Or maybe you’ve heard that strength training is important as you age, but the gym feels overwhelming, and you’re not sure what’s right for your body.

You’re not alone. Many women feel hesitant about strength training, unsure of how to begin or worried about doing it “wrong.” But here’s the truth: strength training is one of the most powerful ways to support your body, build resilience, and boost confidence—at any stage of life.

That’s why we’ve created Basic Strength, an 8-week in-person course designed to help women build a solid foundation in strength training, without intimidation or guesswork.

No prior experience? No problem. This course is designed for beginners, guiding you step-by-step through fundamental movements and safe, effective techniques. You’ll leave feeling strong, capable, and ready to keep progressing.

What You’ll Learn in Basic Strength

Over the 8-week course, you’ll work with Kelsey Karnes, physical therapist and an expert in strength training for women, to develop the skills you need to train effectively and safely.

Each session will focus on:

  • Learning and practicing foundational strength exercises
  • Understanding proper form to prevent injury and maximize results
  • Building knowledge of how to create a balanced, sustainable routine
  • Gaining confidence in your ability to lift and move with strength

This isn’t just about learning exercises—it’s about creating a foundation for movement that allows you to train with confidence, whether you continue strength training, explore other fitness styles, or simply want to move better in daily life.

🗓️Start Date: Wednesday, March 26, 2025 5-6pm

🗓️ End Date: Wednesday, May 14, 2025 5-6pm

📍Location: Move Smart – 1200 N. Limestone, Lexington, KY

💲Tuition: $800 for the complete 8 week program

Do I need prior experience to join?
No! This course is designed specifically for beginners. We’ll start with the basics and build from there.

Will this be too easy for me if I already engage in strength training?
No! It’s never a bad idea to return to the foundations to ensure that the movements you are already doing are being done with proper form and posture. Proper form and posture allow you to optimize your workouts and feel stronger with your training.

What if I have past injuries or concerns about certain movements?
We’ll help you modify movements as needed and ensure you’re training safely based on your body’s needs.
