How Your Pelvic Treatment Plan Could Look
Whether you’re in need of men’s pelvic health services or postpartum pelvic floor muscle dysfunction treatment, you receive a customized plan based on your goals.
Pelvic Floor Strengthening
Pelvic health exercises strengthen and relax the muscles in your pelvic floor to do several amazing things, such as:
- Reduce bladder frequency.
- Improve sexual function.
- Prevent prolapse.
- Improve bowel control.
- Core strengthening and treatment of low back pain.
Dry Needling and Stimulative Therapy
Why is dry needling such a common physical therapy practice? It effectively stimulates muscles while improving blood flow, promoting healing, and reducing pain!
At Move Smart, we focus on dry needling the surrounding muscles in the pelvic region, not the pelvic floor itself. A crucial aspect of pelvic health is relaxation and body awareness. Unlike other physical therapists who may simply recommend strengthening exercises or kegels, we ensure that patients can properly relax their muscles. This approach addresses the underlying causes of various pelvic floor issues and sets us apart in providing comprehensive care.
We offer numerous other forms of stimulative therapy for effective pelvic floor healing, too.
Gait and Movement Analyses
Are your posture or movements possibly causing your pelvic floor symptoms and pain? Through gait analysis and movement analysis, we can measure how you walk, stand, and perform basic tasks.
Sometimes, our physical therapists can even help you limit dysfunction, pain, and other concerns through slight changes to your stride.

Care Elevated Beyond Insurance Constraints
The intricacies of health insurance often prevent physical therapists from providing the full care their patients need. Insurers may limit office visit minutes or services, ultimately restricting the care we can provide, which in turn affects your outcome.
At Move Smart, we move beyond those kinds of insurance constraints. No matter what you’re juggling, you can rely on our consistent care to help you meet your recovery goals, unaffected by insurance limitations.

FAQs
What can I expect on my first visit?
You can expect your therapist to take time to listen to your concerns and get a thorough medical history. She will then complete a thorough examination which will include posture assessment, strength testing, mobility testing, breathing mechanics, and in some cases can include a pelvic floor muscle exam. If the therapist thinks this is indicated it will be performed either vaginally or rectally using a single gloved finger insertion. With this, the therapist will ask you to contract and relax your muscles and will assess strength, and mobility and assess for muscle tension or pain. A pelvic floor muscle exam is ALWAYS optional to patients and is never performed without full consent from the patient as there are many other ways to treat the pelvic floor outside this technique. After the assessment, your therapist will discuss their findings and will build a plan with you to address your symptoms and get you on a path to healing.
What Is Pelvic Health Rehab?
Pelvic health rehab involves support and functioning of your bowel, bladder, and reproductive organs. Revitalizing your pelvic health and restrengthening the pelvic floor aims at more complete mental, physical, and sexual well-being.
Do I have to have an internal examination if I sign up for pelvic floor physical therapy?
No. Our goal at Move Smart is to make our patients feel completely comfortable throughout the process of helping them meet their goals. Internal examinations may be a part of the evaluation process but never have to be if patients are not comfortable with this. Our therapists are trained in non-invasive approaches to pelvic floor examination such as biofeedback, assessing breathing mechanics and core function as well as looking more in-depth at movement patterns. So don’t let fear of an exam stop you from scheduling today to get your pelvic floor symptoms addressed!
